The Baringo-Silali block comprises three geothermal prospects namely: Paka, Korosi, and Silali prospects. These are located on the Rift Valley floor, extending from Baringo County to the southern parts of Turkana County. The block covers an approximate area of 800 Km2 with a resource estimate of 3000MW. The Government of Kenya approved the development of the field in 2010. The main objective of the project is to contribute to the overall country’s renewable energy goals through the Development of electrical capacity (300MW), the lower cost of electricity, and develop direct use applications. In July 2014 KfW signed a loan of Euros 80 million with the Government of Kenya to finance the following project components, a) Construction of a water supply system, b) Drilling of 15-20 geothermal wells, and c) Project related consultancies - implementation consultant; feasibility studies; transaction advisor. So far the total number of wells drilled to completion in the block as at end of April 2022 was Ten (10); five (7) in Paka and three (3) in Korosi.
