The construction of Lamu County Headquarters office at Mokowe Mainland which was done after the devolution from the National Government to County Governments.

In the previous years accessing government services was difficult since most government departments were located at the Island which made access difficult to Witu ward people due to the high cost of transport among other wards in Lamu west constituency.

The construction of Lamu County Government Headquarters offices in Mokowe was successfull finished, fully equiped and immediately started its operation in the year 2018. All county departments: the department of Public Service Management & Administration, Budget, Education, Youth & Gender, Lands, Infrusructure among other departments were all allocated office space in the same annex, the only departments that were not accomodated within the Mokowe office premises is the department of Trade & Tourism and the Fisheries department which were left in the island because of their nature of duties and responsibilities.

This construction has improved service delivery to the people of lamu where one does not have to go around different location within the county to be offered services but instead it serves as a one stop shop where one can be served by serveral department within the same building hence saving time , cost, resources and by this it has improved satisfaction to the people by 80% where the employee turn over has reduced to 10% compred to the previous years.

Educational perfomance in lamu county has been very low.  Performance in both KCPE and KCSE  has been minimal leading to a very low transition rate to secondary schools and other educational institutions.. Poverty on the other hand added insult to the wound as majority of those who perfomed did not transit to other levels. Poverty has been a challenge and a barrier (most)at times.

Lamu scholarship and bursary programme was born to adress this queer problem. The objective was to offer full  scholarships  to all students who attained over 300 marks in KCPE within Lamu county and to give bursary to the rest of the students who are eligible to proceed to the next level as below

1. KSH. 20 000.00 to all students from lamu persuing different courses in various universities

2. KSH. 15 000.00 to all students persuing diplomas

3. 10 000.00 for all students persuing certificate courses.

This has been implemented for a period of 4 years since 2018 and the results are superb.

- 412 000 000 million spent  on scholarship and bursary benefitting  32 000 students  in secondary. colleges and universities

- Transition rate from primary to secondary schools  in lamu is at 100%

- Retention rate is at 95%

- Performance in both primary and secondary schools has tremendously improved.

- Youth in lamu have attained employability skills from various Technical and vocational training colleges under this sponsorship.

Mavuno Dispensary

Lamu County is one of the county in Kenya with challenge of accessibility of health services due to geographic structure. Population in Mavuno area use to cover more than 15KM to access health services in the nearby facility that is either Witu Health Centre or Maisha Masha Dispensary. 

Lamu County Government come up with plan and constructed a dispensary in Mavuno area. All resources were allocated including getting a piece of Land for construction of the Dispensary.

Mavuno Dispensary started offering services in the month of November 2021 and by May 2022 the facility had serve a total of 4,938 Outpatient Clients, 482 clients for Maternal Child Health and Family planning and a total 16 deliveries with the stipulated time.
